Entry Form
Race Entries
- Please e-mail your team’s entries to Kurt Johnson at Taft School (kcjohnson36@yahoo.com) by February 10. We will send you a reminder a few days before this deadline.
- Team size is 3-5 boys, 3-5 girls. Be sure to indicate your racers in desired seed order for all 4 events (boys SL, boys GS, girls SL, girls GS).
- Please list all coaches attending. They will receive complimentary tickets. The gatekeepers and others who are race workers (or team managers) will receive complimentary tickets as well. This will also be true for any school administrator who wishes to come. Parents can purchase tickets for $35.00, unless that are working as a race official.
- Tickets for the competitors will be in the team race packet. The complimentary tickets will be distributed where the coaches and racer workers sign-in.
- Entry fee is $83 per athlete. Make check payable to Berkshire School and mail to Bob Brigham by February 10.
General Information
- Race registration will take place beginning at 7:30 am in the base lodge. Packets will include tickets, start lists, and bibs.
- Bibs:
- We will use the NEPSAC bibs.
- Teams will use the same set of bibs for the afternoon race, thus the boys' SL and girls' GS races (held in the afternoon) will not run in bib order.
- Bibs will be collected as athletes exit the finish corral, at the end of the afternoon race. A $35 fee will be charged for bibs not returned. Please check with all of your athletes to ensure that they have returned their bibs.
- We will hold a coaches’ meeting at 8:15 in front of the timing building.
- All races will be held on Competition (Upper & Lower), which is clearly visible from the base lodge (Berkshire East is an excellent racing venue for spectators).
- Both lifts from the base area serve Upper Competition. Racers who are proceeding to the slalom start are requested to ski down Flying Cloud or Big Chief (trails to the left of Competition as you look up the hill), then take the crossover to lower Competition, to reduce traffic on Upper Competition (where the GS is set).
- The two races will run simultaneously, with the boys racing GS and the girls racing slalom in the morning. First run will begin at 9:30, and the second run will follow immediately, with no delay or course reset (so, top seed racers must be ready for their second run as the fourth or fifth seed racers are taking their first run). Courses will be immediately reset for the afternoon races (boys slalom, girls GS), which we plan to begin at 12:30. Once again, second runs will take place immediately following the final racer’s first run.
- The slalom courses will be single-pole (outside gates only on the first and final gates and any delay gates and vertical combinations) in accordance with the USSA guidelines. Please be sure your racers are informed of the rules regarding legal passage and hiking for missed gate.
- Disqualifications will be posted at the timing building scoreboard after the SECOND run of each race. Protests must be filed within 15 minutes of the posting of the later of the two referee reports (to allow coaches time to conclude their duties of both races, since the races will run simultaneously). Racers who DNF or clearly DSQ in their first run shall not take their second run.
- Awards will be held in the base area (outdoors by the timing building, weather permitting) as early as possible following the conclusion of the race.
- Some reminders of NEPSAC ski championships rules and procedures:
- Running order within each seed is drawn at random, and reversed within each seed for the second run.
- Helmets are required. (USSA: Helmets must cover the head and ears. Helmets with spoilers or edges that stick out are not permitted. Protective features integral to the discipline contested, such as chin guards on slalom helmets are permitted. Soft ear protection is only permitted for helmets used in slalom.
- Lost ski = DNF; however, if the racer loses ski(s) between the last gate and the finish, any part of the body or equipment can stop the timing and give the racer a time.
- Racers who miss their start will run at the end of the start list.
- Team scoring is top 3 of the 5 racers (combined times).
- If a racer misses a gate and chooses to climb, he/she must cross the horizontal plane of the gate missed in GS and circle the single pole in the SL before continuing down the course. However, if a racer falls, and skis stay on, and they are hiking, they must yield to an oncoming racer or be disqualified.
- If a racer feels their run has been interfered with, they must ski out of the course immediately where the infraction occurs. No protest will be allowed if the racer completes the course and/or crosses the finish line. The racer must then ski to the finish area and await the decision of race officials as to whether or not a (provisional) rerun will be granted.
- Referees and afternoon race course setters will be appointed in advance from the pool of coaches attending the race. Nominations for referees and course setters should be send to Bob Brigham.
